BBC World Service is calling on the world’s up-and-coming creative talent to bring the BBC’s global brand closer to younger audiences. Launched jointly with creative member network YCN (You Can Now), the global creative challenge invites those aged between 18 and 34 to “Bring the News to Life”. Their challenge is to develop an advert or an advertising campaign that encourages young people in their countries to engage more with BBC World Service.
The initiative aims to reinforce the connection between younger audiences and BBC World Service which delivers contentin English and through 27 language and regional services. The aim is to harness the talents of young people around the globe – from Afghanistan to Zambia — encouraging them to share their creative vision of BBC World Service.
BBC journalists live their stories by bringing them to life in a most vivid, engaging way – while maintaining their commitment to impartiality and accuracy. That is why the core message at the heart of the challenge is: “BBC World Service: Bringing the News to Life”.
Head of Marketing, BBC World Service, Ruairi Curran, says: “We are launching this initiative so we can discover hidden young talent and find out how creative minds from around the world perceive the BBC brand. The secret to how the BBC is attracting new audiences globally is that we don’t stay still, we listen to our audiences and we continually innovate. We’re giving young people the opportunity to show us how they would bring our brand to life in a creative and original way, and will help us to make sure we are putting them first in our future thinking. We can’t wait to see what ideas they come up with.”
Nick Defty, Director – YCN, adds: “As an organisation dedicated to elevating creativity, teaming up with BBC World Service to discover and showcase rising international talent is a hugely exciting prospect. This is going to be a wonderful platform for innovation, and we predict big things for it.”
The entries will be judged by a panel of experts from the BBC and YCN. The winner will receive £3,000, and two runners-up will each receive £1,000. The winning entry will be announced by BBC World Service on Saturday 18 January 2014.
