I discovered Teela Cunningham’s YouTube channel a year or two ago and have been a fan of her work ever since. When I saw that she had a Skillshare class I just knew that I would enjoy it as much as I enjoy her free tutorials. The first class I took was waterbrush lettering essentails and I highly recommend it if you are interested in learning brush lettering. I’m currently taking her watercolor textures for graphic design class and am so impressed that I wanted to write a review!

I’m sure we have all seen watercolour textures in designs ranging from wedding invitations and stationery to logos and business cards. I was interested in learning how to paint these multicoloured textures so I took Teela’s class. She shows you what supplies she uses – paper, brushes, paint, and more. We learn how to paint a watercolour wash and add complimentary colours to it. Next up is scanning and opening up your texture in Photoshop. Teela shows you what scan settings to use, how to improve the vibrancy of your texture and remove the background. I learnt so many new things during the background removal stage – such great information there!
Next up we learn how to create a seamless texture from our watercolour texture and add it to designs. This way you can add your texture to a font making it look like it was painted in watercolour.
I highly recommend this class if you are interested in learning how to create watercolour textures for your design projects or even your blog. Take this class here.

There are certainly a lot more classes for designers, these are just my personal favourites. If you have your own favourites, let us know in the comments!
This class by Tiago Forte is one of the first classes I took, and I loved it so much I’m actually going through the lessons again for the 3rd time now. If you want to increase your productivity, worry less about the stuff you want to do, work faster and better, then this class is for you. Learn more here.
Ever wanted to make your own repeat patterns? Bonnie Christine shares how to find inspiration for your pattern, how to find a colour palette, helpful Illustrator tips and tricks on drawing your pattern, and finally: how to make a repeat pattern. I loved this course and highly recommend it to beginners and seasoned designers. Learn more here.
If you’re new to Illustrator, this class by Peter Bone will teach you the essential tools. And even if you work in Illustrator every day, you’ll still learn a few cool tricks! Also check out Peter’s other class on making logos with triangles.
In this class by Ross Moody you’ll learn about different print methods, paper types, special print techniques, and how to setup your artwork for print! I’ve never found a tutorial online that showed how to prepare your work for speciality printing techniques, so this class is worth gold. Learn more here.
If you’re a graphic designer or business owner who wants to learn how to create their own brand identity, this class is for you. You won’t learn how to create a logo, instead you’ll learn how to take a logo and build it out into an identity: how to choose a colour palette, fonts and patterns for your or your client’s brand and make it look cohesive. I LOVED this class! Learn more here.
In this class you’ll learn how to make a whimsical drawing using basic shapes. You don’t need to be an illustrator to make these cute graphics. Anyone can do it! At the end of the class you’ll have a new piece of art that you can give away as a free printable, or print it out for a friend! Learn more here.
Update: I just started these two new classes, and I can already tell that they will be in my favourites list. Check them out below:
Learn how to create your own waterbrush lettered greeting cards. So far, this is the best online class about brush lettering I have found. Learn more about it here. Check out Teela’s, (the teacher) two free YouTube tutorials on brush lettering here and here.
This watercolour branding class is another one by Teela. I love her free YouTube tutorials – she is an excellent teacher!
What are your favourite online courses or classes? Will you be taking of these classes I recommended? Let me know in the comments!
